Warren Willis Camp & Conference Center Mission

We prepare a sacred space in a natural setting for all to grow in community and connect with Christ.

Work Camping Mission

The mission of the Work Camper ministry is to joyfully support the vision and mission of The Warren Willis Camp & Conference Center through the work required to sustain its success.

Who We Are

Our Work Camper ministry began in 2007 and has since grown to welcome several new and returning friends who have contributed to the care and upkeep of Warren Willis Camp & Conference Center. Our ministry partners with the year-round staff to not only perform a variety of tasks on the property but to meet the needs of the guests visiting our site.

What a Work Camper Is

Every Work Camper is welcomed into the Christian hospitality team of the Warren Willis United Methodist Camp & Conference Center (Warren Willis). Every individual encountered on the property will be treated with respect and compassion. Warren Willis is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds. Work Campers, like our full-time staff,  understand radical Christian hospitality is meeting the needs of the guests on the property as their primary duty.
A three-month commitment is the minimum required time to be considered a Work Camper. A minimum of 18 or 24 hours of work a week is required per site in exchange for full site hookups, access to amenities, and work camper benefits. Exact requirements are:
Two person site – minimum of 24 hours per week, each person sharing the total 24-hour requirement
One person site – minimum of 18 hours per week

What We Do

Our goal is to identify the unique gifts and talents that our Work Campers bring and put them to use in the most effective way possible in serving the needs of Warren Willis. With that said, we encourage our Work Campers to have an open mind and flexible attitude regarding meeting the most pressing concerns that may arise during the Work Camp season. The following are areas that Work Campers can consider serving in:

  • Housekeeping
  • Food Service
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Building Maintenance
  • Office/Clerical
  • Campground Host
  • Special Projects
When Our Season Begins

Typically, Work Camping season at Warren Willis begins in October and runs through April. The prime season is from January until March. Work Campers are welcome to come and serve at least 3 months or more during this time. Work Campers usually do not work the week of Thanksgiving or Christmas and New Years.

Work Camper FAQ’s:

Every Work Camper will be issued a Work Camper Handbook that contains copious amounts of details and information regarding the Work Camping Ministry at Warren Willis Camp & Conference Center. The following are just some of the questions that potential Work Campers may have:

Can we bring pets to our site?

Absolutely! Docile pets are welcome. Please remember to keep your pets leashed at all times and clean up after your pets. No pets are allowed inside the buildings, including the Pavilions. Please, no more than 2 pets per site.

Can we bring our golf cart? Will we be issued a golf cart during our stay?

Work Campers are encouraged to bring their own golf cart or, if having access to a cart is important to you, to rent a cart from one of our local vendors. Although Warren Willis has golf carts that are used on site, they are not guaranteed to be solely used by our Work Campers, or be available at all times. In other words, our Work Campers should not expect to have their own Warren Willis golf cart during their time with us.

What extracurricular events do the Work Campers enjoy?

Our Work Campers are a lively bunch and very active and outgoing. On property, Work Campers will have access to our pool, canoes, lakefront, walking paths, and more. Work Campers also enjoy hosting events, parties, dinners and going on special day trips. The local scene offers a plethora of restaurants, golfing, bowling and shopping.

Can we invite family and friends to our site?

Yes! However, if you are expecting family and friends to stay beyond a night or two, we recommend taking advantage of the fact our Work Campers are granted two complimentary nights and four nights in a hotel-style room, in Buildings 1-4, at a special rate of $26.00 (includes all taxes) per room per night or a campground reservation with two complimentary nights and four nights at a special rate of $15.00 per site per night. Any combination of the two for a total of 6 nights may be used in the season. All rooms and camping sites are subject to availability and must be coordinated with the Reservations and Group Services Coordinator.

For all other questions please refer to the Work Camper Handbook.
